Donors and recipients gathered during Hanukkah to award scholarships to disabled Israeli veterans. The Scholarship Distribution Ceremony lights the way for these heroes to succeed on their long roads of rehabilitation.
The annual National Day of Appreciation for Israel’s Wounded Soldiers and Victims of Terror began with many marches and parades through the country. From the Dan River up North, to Eilat in the South, there were marches and many other events in which wounded veteran’s told their stories.
On Sunday, September 18, Beit Halochem USA/Friends of Israel Disabled Veterans, held a brunch fundraiser at Deer Creek Country Club in Florida. We were honored to have Israeli Deputy Consul General, Mike Driquez, join us for our Celebration to Support Israel’s Disabled Veterans.
The Maccabiah Games are the third largest sporting event in the world, and take place every four years in Israel. The rich history of this event dates back to pre-state times.
At a special and festive ceremony at Beit Halochem Tel Aviv, ZDVO / Beit Halochem awarded 74 sports scholarships to individuals, for a total amount of NIS 480,000, or approximately $140,000.
Debbie and Matt Greenberg, and their sons Jason and Robert, recently visited our Beit Halochem center in Jerusalem. The Greenberg brothers Matt, Mitchel and Mark, have shown their steadfast love for Israel’s wounded veterans by supporting Beit Halochem’s Gil-On Club for retirees, as well as the Young Disabled Veterans Club.
ZDVO-Beit Halochem have awarded 649 academic, vocational training, and creative arts scholarships in December 2021. The total amount awarded for scholarships was US$857,000.
In each generation, it takes a group of committed people to continue a family legacy of philanthropy. Helping people is part of Jewish life. Now a new group, the Dor Hadash Board, currently in formation, is focusing on bringing awareness and financial support to the four Beit Halochem rehabilitation centers in Israel that serve more than 50,000 disabled veterans, terror attack survivors, and their family members.
Israel’s President Yitzhak Herzog lit the first Hanukkah candle at Beit Halochem Tel Aviv. This ceremony also marked the occasion of the Day of Appreciation for the Zahal Disabled Veterans and Victims of Terror. Among those present were Edan Kleiman, Chair of the ZDVO, and Abie Moses, representing victims of terror.
