Israel’s President Yitzhak Herzog lit the first Hanukkah candle at Beit Halochem Tel Aviv. This ceremony also marked the occasion of the Day of Appreciation for the Zahal Disabled Veterans and Victims of Terror. Among those present were Edan Kleiman, Chair of the ZDVO, and Abie Moses, representing victims of terror.
The Beit Halochem International 5K Run/Walk was held in North Woodmere Park on September 12, 2021. A hearty crowd of 200 persons of all ages joined in person, while disabled veterans and others in Israel partnered with us through a variety of physical challenges and sports.

In the last couple of days, hundreds of rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip toward Israeli cities, including the capital of Israel, Jerusalem. In response, the IDF struck military targets belonging to the Hamas terror organization in Gaza. Simultaneously, widespread civil rioting by some of the Arab population in various towns and cities throughout the country has erupted.
During December 2020, ZDVO-Beit Halochem awarded 644 academic and vocational training as well as creative arts scholarships, in a total amount of approximately NIS 2,600,000 (US$ 825,000) raised from private donors, Friends’ Organizations and endowments.
Sixty Sports Excellence Scholarships were awarded at Beit Halochem Tel Aviv, for total value of $110,600 USD. In a special ceremony adapted because of the pandemic, the scholarship support went to excelling athletes and their coaches for their athletic achievements. Our brave men and women from all four Beit Halochem centers are truly inspiring.
After three months of closed Beit Halochem centers, Israeli disabled veterans are now able to resume therapy and other rehabilitative activities. Here is Nahum Prital’s story.
Lisa and Barry Levi, chairs of our Boca Raton chapter, honored Lisa’s father, Al Ben-Ness z”l, by bringing friends together to a Valentine’s party to show that there are many different ways of expressing love. More than 60 people came to celebrate. The evening’s theme was “Dynamic Duos” or “Iconic Characters”.
