Meet Yulia Chernoy, one of our incredible participants in the Paralympic Games!

Yulia was born in Kazakhstan with mild cerebral palsy, limiting her walking and requiring a walking stick. At the age of 30, she discovered her passion for sports, got adopted by Beit Halochem Tel Aviv, and today she boasts:

2012: European Champion in Para-Triathlon

2016: 9th place in Rowing at the Rio Paralympics

2019: Bronze medalist at the World Championships in Australia

Yulia lives in Tel Aviv, managing training and courses at the Electric Company while continuing her rigorous training at Beit Halochem Tel Aviv under coach Guy Starick. She is married to a Zahal disabled veteran and has one child.

Paralympic athlete Amir Levy’s journey began as a young soldier in Zahal where a severe spinal injury changed his life. With the support of dedicated Beit Halochem therapists, Amir regained significant functions and found a passion for wheelchair badminton.

His determination and resilience was tested on another occasion, after he slipped at home, suffering a rib fracture and was told by the therapists he would not be able to compete in the World Championship.  “I could barely raise my hand but I went ahead, played, and reached the finals,” said Amir.

As Amir, Yulia, and other Israeli athletes compete at the Paris games, they carry with them the hopes and pride of a nation inspired by their stories.
