Previous to the start of the 2012 London Paralympics, Noam Gershony was one of Israel’s and FIDV’s greatest hopes for winning a Gold medal. Gershony is a member of Beit Halochem (Tel-Aviv). Noam won the Gold medal in wheelchair tennis (quad category) after beating the #1 ranked player, David Wagner (USA), 6-3, 6-1.

Mr. Gershony also won the French and the British Opens, which combined with his other wins this year moved his ranking to #2. He is the first Israeli to win a Paralympic gold since 2004.
As Noam says, he was first taken with tennis when he visited Beit Halochem four years ago.

“I began playing wheelchair tennis for the fun of it but didn’t think for one moment I’d make it to such high levels.”

In addition to the Gold medal, Noam won a Bronze medal in the doubles category with teammate Shraga Weinberg.To honor his achievements, Noam carried the flag for Israel in the Paralympics closing ceremony.
