From Generation to Generation/M’Dor L’Dor: Boca Raton Welcomes FIDV-Beit Halochem

On Sunday, March 3, 2019, FIDV supporters, Lisa and Barry Levi, opened their home in Boca Raton, Florida. They hosted over 90 young professionals who came to learn about Israel’s disabled veterans and how Beit Halochem helps those men and women during the long and complicated rehabilitation processes.

After opening remarks by Ella Levine, National Executive Director of FIDV-Beit Halochem, two short films were shown about Beit Halochem and its impact on the health and welfare of the heroes served in one of the four centers.

Dr. Moshe Shemma (Col. Res.), Executive Director of the Zahal Disabled Veterans Fund (ZDVF), was the guest speaker.

Barry Levi welcomed the guests. He and Lisa assumed the chairmanship roles for the FIDV Boca Raton Chapter, with the goal of energizing fundraising efforts and commitment to Israel’s heroes. Lisa Levi dedicated the evening to her late father, Al Ben-Ness z”l, former FIDV Boynton Beach Chair, and his 20-year commitment to helping Beit Halochem.

Among the guests were good friends Haviva Ben-Ness, as well as Jim Cohen, the new Boynton Beach Chair, and his wife Ann. For some of the guests, it was the first time they had heard about Beit Halochem, but they came to understand the critical role of the centers for disabled veterans, victims of terror attacks, and their families, in Israel. Among the guests were some who have children who are planning to make Aliyah and serve in the IDF.

One guest commented, “This is a great beginning for a great cause, one that we all believe in. We want to do more.”

FIDV-Beit Halochem is grateful to Lisa and Barry for taking this opportunity to reach out to family and friends. New events are planned for 2019.

Lisa Levi summed up the gathering and the cause this way: “This is our lifetime commitment to the state we love, and to her wounded veterans. They are all our children. We are so happy to have come this evening and learn about BH. It made my life so more meaningful, I am privileged to be here and to help.”
