Hanukkah Salute to the Wounded Heroes of Israel

On the evening of December 12, 2023, Beit Halochem USA/FIDV held a special Hanukkah celebration in Westbury, New York, which both honored and saluted the wounded veterans of Israel. Nearly 600 guests attended, coming from greater New York, Teaneck, Philadelphia, and Boston.

We are grateful to distinguished guests Commander of the Israeli Air Force Maj. Gen. Eitan Ben Eliyahu, and Amit Ginat, a wounded IDF soldier who shared his story. They came specially from Israel to join us. Michael Leichtling and Isaack Seinuk, Beit Halochem USA Co-Chairs, shared the honors with Iris and Shalom Maidenbaum.

Beit Halochem USA/FIDV is the sole organization authorized in the United States to raise charitable funds for wounded Israeli veterans. I was proud to support their charitable fundraising efforts in Westbuy, NY. — Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman

Michael Leichtling, summing up the impact of this important evening, noted, “A very powerful message for Beit Halochem was sent to a receptive audience in New York last night. Congratulations to Tzvia, Isaac, Ella and all staffers for their great effort. Our guests represented a broad range of the Diaspora in the United States. The Journal and program, coupled with strong speakers and unique videos, aptly conveyed IDF heroism and the important role of the Beit Halochem Centers. Thank you all!”

Among many other notable guests were Bruce Blackman, the Nassau County Executive; Mazi Melesa Pilip, Nassau County legislator; Commissioner Irving Kaminetzky; and Judge David Kirsch; as well as Offer Attia, and Meir Moshe. Notable leaders, rabbis, individuals from the Greater Long Island community, and supporters, all added to the event’s significance.

The collaborative effort of supporters, including leaders, rabbis, and individuals from the Greater Long Island community, emphasized unity for a shared cause. This event stands as a testament to the power of bringing diverse communities together.

Thanks to everyone involved for putting smiles on the faces of Israel’s wounded soldiers!
